Happenings in Room Three - Term One 2014

Baylee and her Mother had a very busy weekend.  

A great indoor activity in the wet weather we have been having!

They made one of these cool string eggs for each person in Room 3.

We are learning to write recount stories.  These need to be true and have the information of WHO? WHAT? WHERE?  Below are some recounts we wrote about the tennis lessons we have at school.

Tennis by Max W.

We do tennis practise at Clive School. It is super-duper pooper fun.  My partner is Harvey.  We always go together.  We are doing tennis today.  Harvey has an orange racket and I am yellow.  We do it in the hall.

At Clive School we do tennis.  We need to get in buddies because we need someone to throw the ball.  One of us uses the racket.   I use my right hand.  I normally go with Georgia or Emma.

We do tennis at Clive School in the hall.  We are learning back hand this week.  I can’t wait until tennis time.  I use the blue racket.  We do tennis after reading.

At Clive School we do tennis.  We have different colour rackets like orange, yellow and blue.  We have buddies.  Last time I was with Roy.  We do it in the hall.  We do it for practise.  I like to do my tennis.

Every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday we go to tennis.  We have it in the hall.  We hit the racket over our shoulder.

At tennis time we do tennis in the hall.  We have fun in the hall.  The tennis rackets are orange, yellow and blue.  I have fun with Tyrone and Juel at tennis.

Tennis by Harvey

My partner is Max W.  Max W and I are pros together.  I use the orange racket.  Max W uses the yellow racket.  Every time we start tennis, I use the ball.  I like tennis because I hit the ball far.  Last week we learnt forehand.  This week we are learning back hand.

We do tennis lessons.  It is fun.  I use the blue bat.  I like doing tennis.  We do it in the school hall.  You are not supposed to whack the ball into the sky because in a real game you will be out.  You whack the ball and the racket lands on your shoulder.  You have to whack the ball just over your wrist.  My buddy is normally Reuben, Max W or Seth.  We are pro together.  We are still learning to play tennis.  We were normally practising fore hand but now we are learning back hand.

We do tennis in the Clive School hall.  Sometimes we do it outside.  Everyday we do tennis.  Today we are learning to do back hand.  You swing to hit the ball up and over.  My buddy is mostly Roy.

Today my buddy is either going to be Tyrone or Nahanni.  I’m going to be the thrower first and my buddy is going to be the hitter first.  I practise at home with my brother Beau.

Sometimes our class has tennis.  It is fun because we all have a buddy or a partner.  W.A.L.T  hit it over the net and aim good so we get a good hit.  We have it in the hall.  When we do it we go up and over.

At school we play tennis in the Clive School hall.  Phoebe told us how to hold a tennis racket.  It goes up and then over your shoulder.

I play tennis.  It has blue rackets, orange rackets and yellow ones.  I have lots of fun doing it.  The hall of Clive School does it.  The teacher teaches us and we learn lots.  Sometimes Phoebe comes up and teaches us.  She is very good.  Phoebe is my friend.  An excellent teacher.  You hold the racket like you are shaking someone’s hand.

I like tennis.  It is fun.  We have tennis in the hall. I use an orange racket. I liked hitting with the racket and chasing the ball.  I can hit the ball carefully.

On Tuesday and Thursday Room 3 does Tennis. Some people use the blue racket. The orange is the little racket; the yellow is the middle size. Room 3 does it at Clive School Hall.

We do Tennis in the hall. There are different colours of rackets. There are yellow, orange and blue.  It is very fun.  I always choose Nahanni to be my partner.

I am learning to hold my racket so you can hit the ball.  The buddy is me and Sydney.  She is my buddy. For tennis the colours of the racket is yellow. Sydney’s racket is blue.  We have different rackets.  I like my racket and Sydney does too.  We like our rackets very much.  I am left handed, Sydney is right.

At Clive School we are learning to play tennis. But we are learning to hold the racket properly.  It’s easy for me because I have a tennis set at home.  I play with my Dad or Mum or Sister or Brothers.   I love tennis.  My tennis racket colour is orange.  There are different colours.  There’s orange, blue, and yellow.   In tennis we have buddies.  For my Buddy I have Tyrone, Jerzy and Sativah.

Tennis by Sydney

On a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we do tennis.  When we do teams I have a yellow racket and sometimes a blue.  Jalyzae and I are always buddies.  If there is something in the Clive School Hall we have to go outside and do tennis there.  We have done it once.  When we hit it, the racket needs to end at your shoulder.  When you hold it you need to hold it down the bottom.  Tennis is cool and awesome.  Jalyzae is left and I am right handed.

Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we do ….. TENNIS.  My partner is Phoebe. She is really good at tennis.  We normally do tennis in the hall but if something is going on in the hall we go outside.

We read the story "Where's my Teddy?".  We decided to be creative with our scissors, material and glue.  First there was clean carpet.

Then there were little bits of material on the floor

Then the pieces of material got organised into bear shapes

Finally there was creative mess everywhere in our classroom!! (don't look Mary-lou!)

We read a big book called "There were cats"  We especially liked the repeating words;

There were
cats, cats, cats
Mean and crabby cats,
White cats, black cats
Grey and tabby cats.
There were cats!

Then we created our own cats.

Science in Room 3
Mrs Leech comes to teach us Science every Tuesday.  On March 11 we were testing different substances using red cabbage juice and universal indicators to find out if liquids were acids or bases.  Below are some photos of our learning.

Using the I-pad we took photos playing on the Playground.  We then wrote stories in our Written Language book.  We also took turns at writing on the I-pads.  Below are the stories we wrote in our Written Language book about the fun we have playing on the playground.

At morning tea I play on the yellow monkey bars with my friend Emma.  We don’t like blisters.  Neither does Isabella, but my mum says when I have blisters you have to have a bath so it will dry out, so it will heal, which is very, very good.  But when I get them I always fiddle with them when my mum says not to.  I always fiddle with them.

I like playing on the field at morning tea and lunch time and the same as after school, with my friends.  They like to go on the adventure playground too.  My friends, where are you?  On the field. What are you doing?  Playing with your friends.

My friends and I are going to play on the monkey bars.  My friends are Miah, Sian, Saylor, Nahanni, Sativah, Tom, Poppy, Hayley, Georgia, Baylee, Jean, Tyrone, Nicole Max W, Emma, Katey, Jerzy, Blade, Roy, Rueben, Jonte, Adam, Jessica, Arron, Angel, Mrs Cornelius, Ms Petherick, Mr Eales, Mr Bassett and Teina.

I love playing in the playground especially with Novah, Emma and phoebe.  We love to play on the monkey bars.  We only play at morning tea and lunch. We play so we can have fun and find out new stuff.

At school I play on the monkey bars at morning tea, with my friends.   I go on the field with the soccer ball playing.  I mostly play with Roy and other people from Room 5, who play soccer.  Sometimes Room 1 people play too.

I am on the Monkey bars.   I am like a monkey swinging on the vine.  I am swinging fast and slow.  I can race to the other side.  You stop when you get to the other side.  You can go backwards.  You can go forwards.  It is your decision which way do you want to go.

I Played ball tag.  It was cool.  I didn’t get tagged.  Gray was “pegs”.  I played tag with Taj, Dale, Lucas and Briarne.  We played on the field.  We played on the field because the field is soft.  Taj and Dale were funny.  The first person in was Briarne.  I was puffed when we came in.  I love playing ball tag.  At lunch time I played soccer, with my brother and Calvin’s friends.

This is my picture.  It is at the playground. I play with my friends in here.  It is fun.  We play fun games.  We play in here because there’s heaps of things to go on.  I Play with Reuben, Roy, Tyler, Rhys, Alfy, Louie and sometimes Tyron.

At morning tea and lunch I play soccer with Briarne, Reuben, Roy, Brock, Lewis, Ricco, Sam and Max W and the Seniors.  It is a very fun game for us.

At lunch and morning tea I play on the Monkey Bars. It is fun.  I swing across the bars.  I fall off the bars and then I get back up.  I played with Reuben and Harvey.  Then I rush to the slide and then I slide down the slide.  I go in the tunnel and then I jump off the edge of the ladder.  Then I go off to the shiny yellow monkey bars.

I am playing on the slide.  But I mostly play on the Monkey Bars.  I like to play with my brother.  It is fun!  I LOVE school! COOL and FUN!

At Morning Tea and Lunch time I play on the Monkey bars.  I can miss one bar on them.  I can miss two bars on the triangle bars.  I play with Georgia, Nahanni and Miah on the bars.  I like playing on the monkey bars because I like being a monkey>  It is sunny at the Monkey Bars.

I am on the Junior Adventure playground.  I am on the monkey Bars upside down.  I am dizzy.  It is fun as!!!! We are having fun!  I like to climb a tree but I forgot how to climb the tree.  We go on it when it is Morning Tea and Lunch time.  I love to play.

When I was playing on the yellow Monkey Bars at morning tea and lunch time, I go on top of the bars and I can jump to the fifth bar.  When I play on the monkey bars I see my friends on there.  When I have no one to play with I play with them.  I play there because it’s sunny.  And I like swinging on them and I like playing on them because I am a monkey.  I play with Miah, Hayley and Nahanni. Phoebe, Nahanni and Rueben are in my group.  I even play with Nicole on them too.  I love swinging on the monkey bars.  Yesterday I played a game on them with Max V.  Emily, Hayley, Jalyzae. Sativah, Juel, Nicol, Tamara and Nahanni were playing on there.  Sativah was tickling everyone that was playing.  We had so much fun.  Maih was playing too.  We played today and there were less people today.  My arms were tired but I got across the monkey bars.  The people that were playing were Toby, Miah, Jean, Juel and Max W.  I play with Tyrone on the triangle and green monkey bars.  I can jump to the other monkey bar.  I can miss two and reach the forth bar. Sometimes I miss them, the same with my friends too.  Hayley can jump to the fifth on the yellow monkey bar.  I like playing on the monkey Bars.

I am playing on the Monkey Bars and I was playing with Harvey and Sativah.  After that we went to the Mat.  Then we went on the i-pad and wrote about it.  That was fun.  It was a sunny day but we couldn’t do our swimming sports.  It was a bit sad.  But I was okay.  After that the i-pad was playing up.

I love playing in the playground.  I love playing with Sophie, Nahanni, Emily and Tyrone.   It is fun.  I like playing on the web in the playground.  It is fun to stick on the web.  It is high as.  I was going to jump off the top but I didn’t jump, I was too high.

I am playing in the playground with the Seniors, with my friends.  It was fun.

We have a photo wall at the back of our classroom.  We wrote stories (these are un-named in class).  The aim was to write enough information, so that the readers of our stories would be able to match up our words and our photo. Below are some of our stories -(these are named to enable parents to see their own child's story.)

I went to Rotorua.  I went on a go-cart.  Jak did not want to go on one.  On the first time going around I crashed into some tyres.  Mum, Jak and Dad came.  We went to see Aunty Shona.

Max W

I went to Taupo.  My family stayed in Number 11.  My family went to the honey bee hive.  It was fun.  We stayed there for a week.  We had fish and chips for one night.  I bought some toys.  At Taupo we played games in the game room.  We also had a disco.  It went for an hour.  We went to bed at ten o’clock.  I went on the go-karts.  We left on Monday.

Harvey

I went to my cousins house and I got to hold him.  He is one years old and his name is Raana.  He kept on running around so I gave him a toy to play with.

Georgia

I went to the farmers market with my Mum, Dad, Nana, Brother and Aunty.  My Nana got some blackberrys and some raspberrys.  But my favourite thing she got was pizzas.  After the pizzas were all in our tummies me and my brother went to the climbing tree.  I’m on the highest branch on the climbing tree and that’s where I’m on my picture.

Isabella

I was with my family and I just got back from riding.  I jumped over high and I jumped Beau back.  It is so fun when I have a go.

Phoebe

When I went to Cape Kidnappers in October last year, I was picking up feathers from the gannets.  It was fun.  We had to go on trucks to get there.  Some of the trucks got stuck.

Hayley

When I went to my Grans we had a good time.  I slept on the couch and Zoe slept on the bed.  Eva slept down stairs.  I think she had a good time too.  When we went there I felt sick so we had to park the car.  When I got out of the car I spewed up.  It was gross and then I go back in the car.  I didn’t spew any more. It was a bumpy ride.  I didn’t spew though.  We stopped to get ball tag.  I had a lovely sleep.

Roy

When I was home I was by my flax tree and my mum took a picture of me and after that we had an ice cream.

Teina

When I started my rugby game, I was playing ripa-rugby.  I had a run and I got a score.  My rugby game was at Clive rugby ground.  I got the player of the day.

Reuben

I went to Splash Planet.  It was my birthday.  We had fun.

Briarne

On Saturday I went to cricket and I was the Captain on that day.  I got to bat and bowl and field.  I was the player of the day.  At the end of the day we get a Fredo and it was black and white.

Sydney

My dog is running around the house and it was funny.  I laughed and my family was too.  I was happy at it.

Emma

I went to a highland dancing camp.  I came 3^rd and won a medal and two ribbons but it was hot.  I loved it and I got to get a cup.

Emily

One day I went to Skate Zone.  I was scared the first time.  I tried again two times and I was good.

Jerzy

One Friday I raced outside.  I waited and waited and waited.  Oh and do you know why I was waiting?  It was because I was going to Auckland that morning.  I was waiting for my friend to arrive.  Her name is Jasmine.  I was going to Auckland because I was going to Taylor-Swifts concert.  I got a day off school.  Her Mum and my mum went with us, (not our brothers.)  We stayed at a Hotel.

Sophie

I was at home, my brother came with my sisters daughter.  Her name is Miyka.  My Mum took a picture of us.  We love photos very much.  Mum always takes photos of us, every time they come.

Swimming stories (written by some clever Room 3 children) to explain our daily swimming lessons.

I need to work on backstroke, freestyle and also my long leg kicking but I know that I'm getting more awesome every day.  We don't play in the pool except on Fridays.  We do lessons at Clive School swimming pool.  We only do lessons on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and again not on Friday.  on Friday we have free play but I love doing lessons.  We also have groups at swimming.  We go swimming after morning tea.  We are the wonderful Room 3.

I'm in the sea horse group.  I can do good arms.  We swim in the Clive School pool.  We swim after morning tea, to get better at swimming.  Room 3 goes then.

I am learning to swim on my back and hold my breath under water.  I am a dolphin.  We go swimming because we need to learn swimming skills. We swim in the school pool.  We practise so we can get better. We swim every day except Friday.  I swim with my class.

I am in the dolphin group.  I am learning to swim a length of freestyle.  Some times I get better.  We go swimming at Clive School.  We have free play only on Fridays.  On the other days we have lessons.  We have it every day after morning tea.  I swim in it every day.

I am a dolphin in Swimming because i am a super swimmer.  But there are some things i have to get better at like... arms, back-stroke, long leg kicking and that's all.  I normally go swimming because we have to learn swimming lessons.  The whole class of Room 3 goes.  We go after morning tea.  We have to go swimming so we can pass different cards.  I am a dolphin.  So I have to pass to get to advanced dolphin.  That's the last one!

At Clive School I need to practise breathing.  I am in seahorse.  the swimming pool is at the back of the field.  We do swimming after morning tea.  We do swimming to learn.

At Clive School I am a dolphin.  It is awesome.  We get free time on Friday.  We go swimming so then if we fall in water we won't die.  We go swimming after morning tea.  I like going after morning tea because i am sweaty after morning tea.  We have groups.  We go swimming to learn.  We do lessons on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

We had fun when the hip-hop teachers visited.  We tried loads of groovy moves.  We followed instructions well.

We had a hedgehog visitor in Room 3. The hedgehog was very tame.  We learnt lots of facts about them.
